Just load a digital photo into the RepaintMyImage application and moments later you will have a new image, one that looks more like a painting – or a comic. There are two algorithms you can choose from to make said image painterly, Smudge and Repaint; and a third algorithm that can make the image look like a comic, Cartoonize.

RepaintMyImage is available as a standalone application for 32 and 64-bit Windows editions and as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop (CS2 or newer). The installation file for Windows is close to 4MB in size. Download and run this file and you will be able to install the application in one of the many supported languages: English, Czech, Dutch, Romanian, Russian, and Turkish.

The image you’re working on is presented in the large pane to the left on RepaintMyImage interface. Buttons to load an image, save your work, and buttons for the algorithms you could use to make your image painterly are presented in the upper left hand corner. Once you select an algorithm, sliders for customizing it will be presented in a pane to the right. Overall, the dark-themed interface is quite easy to use.

And speaking about use, taking advantage of the functionality RepaintMyImage has to offer is a simple three step process:
Step 1 – load an image into the application. You can do this by dragging and dropping the image onto RepaintMyImage, by using the Open Image button in the upper left hand corner of the interface, or by using the Ctrl + O hotkey.
Step 2 – choose one of the algorithms RepaintMyImage has to offer, use the sliders from the right hand side to play with the algorithm’s settings. Check the Preview button and a small window will show up and give you an idea of how things will end up.
Step 3 – let RepaintMyImage process the image, then save your work. Please note that the trial version of RepaintMyImage will not allow you to save the processed image.

RepaintMyImage works as advertised and does its job quickly. Go get it if you want to make an image look more like a painting.

Pros

RepaintMyImage is available as a Windows standalone application and as a Photoshop plug-in. The dark-themed interface is very easy to use. There are three algorithms you can use to make your images more painterly. There’s a handy preview window.

Cons

The trial does not allow you to save the processed image.
